BACK TO SCHOOL, BACK TO REGULAR ROUTINES, BACK TO FITNESS.
Getting the kids back to school always signals the return to regular schedules and life as it should be. The temperature may not be cooperating with the end of summer, but at least Fall and cooler weather are in sight.
Our new Lifecycle Recumbent bikes are here and everyone is loving them.

Check out easyrunnermemphis.com for the most up to date calendar of workshops coming up this summer and Fall.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS - CLASSES
Training Prescriptions - For about one third the cost of traditional personal training, members can sign up to receive training prescriptions from one of our personal trainers. Every week, your trainer will send you a new program to help you reach your goals depending upon what those goals are.
Check out the personal training page for prices and complete details.
SWEATSHOP AND S.W.A.T. (BOOT CAMP). These are two of our signature group training programs conducted exclusively by InsideOut personal trainers. SweatShop groups meet once or twice a year for intense training sessions. SweatShop targets people who are in shape but need to push themselves to a new level. It's intense and unforgiving - not for beginners.
Our Boot Camp (InsideOut S.W.A.T.), on the other hand, is perfect for all levels from beginner to advanced and meets on an ongoing basis. Check the front desk for specific dates and times.
Both programs educate participants on all aspects of fitness, including cardio vascular exercise, weight training, and nutrition.
ROADIES. If you are a cycling enthusiast and want to hit the MRT for a few (or 50) miles on Saturday mornings, be at the gym at 8 am. The ride goes from our parking lot to the Shelby Forest General Store (and sometimes beyond) and back. Road bikes are strongly recommended. This is an intermediate to advanced level group.
HYBRIDS. We don't yet have a hybrid or mountain bike group riding from the gym, but we are open to any takers. If you like a good fitness ride and have a hybrid or mountain bike, let us know. We'll help get a group together for a weekend ride.

CHI RUNNING WORKSHOPS AT INSIDEOUT

CHI RUNNING WORKSHOP SATURDAY, June 19TH!
What is Chi Running and its main focus? ChiRunning combines the inner focus and flow of T'ai Chi with the power and energy of running to create a revolutionary running form and philosophy that takes the pounding, pain, and potential damage out of the sport of running.
Over time, running can have negative effects on joints from the continuous impact, and it is safe to say that the majority of people who consider themselves runners never learned how to run in the safest way possible.
Most of us just hit the streets or trails and started running. The focus of ChiRunning is to teach you how to position your body and your mind for optimal effect. Instead of pounding the pavement, you'll learn to glide along and over it, gently and safely.
How Does the Program Work? The ChiRunning program increases mental clarity and focus, enhances the joy of running, and turns running into a safe and effective lifelong program for health, fitness, and well-being. ChiRunning helps reduce or eliminate injury and pain such as: knee pain, hip pain, IT Band Syndrome (ITB), hamstring pulls, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, soreness and fatigue. Conditioning your mind is just as important as conditioning your body. And Chi Running will help you focus your mind, lift your spirit and open up your flow of chi.
Is ChiRunning only for Runners or Can Beginners Participate? ChiRunning has helped many people, from beginners to cross country runners to triathletes. Whether you are just beginning a running program or training for a marathon, race, or triathlon, the ChiRunning approach is one that builds a healthy body, instead of breaking it down from misuse or overuse.
InsideOut's ChiRunning workshops are held monthly and facilitated by certified ChiRunning instructor, Natalie Isaac.
Email Natalie at natisaac@aol.com for complete information, upcoming workshop dates, prices and ChiRunning details.

"You're not sick; you're thirsty. Don't treat thirst with medication."
- Dr. F. Batmanghelidj
Thirteen years ago, Dr. F. Batmanghelidj came to InsideOut to promote his book, Your Body's Many Cries for Water. We sponsored a Saturday workshop to educate our members about the importance of being hydrated, and Dr. Batman went on to become the foremost expert on water - hydration, in particular. Today, his foundation supports a website to continue that education. Read on, and check it out, then fill up your water bottles, over and over everyday, and STAY HYDRATED.
From the website . . .
Our life, our planet. Over 70% of the earth's surface is water. However, most of it—98%--is salt water. Only 2% of the earth's H20 is fresh water that we can drink, and of this, almost all is trapped in frozen glaciers.
You are not just what you eat; you are what you drink. This is why water is so important to your health.
The Water Cure (TWC) does not sell water or purification systems or any related products. We offer insights and information; both free and in books that give you easy-to-understand scientific explanations on why water is vital to your well-being.
TWC believes promoting "water for health, for healing, for life" is an invaluable public health message. We can all change the way we drink – by drinking pure, natural water that is good for our health, our pocket book, and our environment.
No miracles. Just common sense backed by Dr. F. Batmaghelidj’s years of research and investigation into why water works so well in keeping us healthy and pain free. It can even cure illness in some people who get sick.
Water is the basis of all life and that includes your body. Your muscles that move your body are 75% water; your blood that transport nutrients is 82% water; your lungs that provide your oxygen are 90% water; your brain that is the control center of your body is 76% water; even your bones are 25% water.
As always, the solution is multi-faceted, especially in the case of athletes. Read about hydration and adequate salt intake below.
CAN WE DRINK TOO MUCH WATER?
During intense exercise the kidneys cannot excrete excess water. The extra water moves into the cells, including brain cells. The result can be fatal. For that reason, athletes should estimate how much they should drink by weighing themselves before and after long training runs to see how much they lose, and thus how much water and salt they should replace.
The studies that found 13% of the runners tested drank too much water, resulting in abnormally low blood sodium levels. The low sodium levels made many of these people very sick, and close to the point of death. The importance lesson here is to balance your water intake with your sodium intake.
Our health is truly dependent on the quality and quantity of the water we drink. Check it out. Click on the link below and HYDRATE!

When people ask what makes us different from all of the other gyms and health clubs in Memphis, the answer is simple - EVERYTHING! From the sheer number and variety of our FREE classes to our exceptional staff and personal trainers, InsideOut is definitely a cut above the rest. No other gyms in Memphis have a friendly staff and welcoming environment like InsideOut. Ask any one of our members, or come in and see for yourself.
InsideOut is Midtown's Gym. We first opened our doors 13 years ago on Young Avenue in the heart of Cooper Young. That was 1996 and we moved to our current location at 2162 Courtland Pl in 2001, and are now even more centrally located to all of Midtown.
What continues to make us different? How about having the owners on site all day, everyday! There aren't many gyms or many businesses whose owners manage and actively take part in the daily running of the business. That's the difference at InsideOut.
Donna, Natalie, and Lisa work, manage, and teach classes at the gym on a daily basis, so your concerns as members are the priority. Our goal is to offer our members the best and the newest in the fitness industry - so that you don't get bored, so that you continue to get better.
